Illogan School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Safeguarding our children is the responsibility of everyone. If you see something that concerns you, you have a duty to say something.
ALL STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A DBS CHECK PRIOR TO WORKING WITHIN OUR SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST APPLY TO SCHOOL FOR A POSITION IN WRITING AND UNDERGO AN INTERVIEW BEFORE A POSITION WILL BE OFFERED.
What is safeguarding?

Preventing the impairment of children’s health or development.
Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care. There is not enough depends on the parents. The family should have a good atmosphere. And for this, parents need to have a strong relationship.
Taking action to enable all the children to have the best outcomes.

Our school community has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and procedures in place, which are available on the web site or from the school office on request. All staff, including our volunteers and supply staff, must ensure that they are aware of our procedures; parents and carers are welcome to read these. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will always ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with their parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that this is not in the child’s best interests.

All staff and Governors receive annual Child Protection and Safeguarding training and regular updates. Our policies are regularly reviewed and all staff read and act upon the policies. Illogan School prides itself on its active culture of safeguarding. All of our pupils are regularly reminded that they have a right to be safe and happy and that they can always talk to their chosen trusted adult.

Operation Encompass
The school uses the services of Operation Encompass, a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous evening.
The information is given in strict confidence to a school’s Key Audit to enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child.
