School Governors

Our school is proud to be part of the Crofty Multi Academy Trust, the running of which is overseen by the board of trustees – chaired by Mr Mike Hosking.

The Trust Board is made up of volunteers, mainly people who have been school governors in the past but also including people with specific business or educational skills. They set the strategic direction for the Trust, hold the Trust to account for its outcomes for students and oversee the work of the Executive Officers.

Each school has a Local Governing Body (LGB) who have delegated responsibility for standards and outcomes in that school, its safeguarding and its relationships with external stakeholders, especially parents. The Chairs of LGBs are held to account by the Board for outcomes in those areas.

The LGB will use its detailed knowledge and engagement with stakeholders to ensure that their school is being well served by the executive leadership, and has direct access to the board if there are concerns.

The Local Governing Body of Illogan School are all volunteers who give up their time to represent the community and to help shape the direction and aims of the School. Please click on their names below to find out more details about their term of office and responsibilities. School Governors

Mrs Janet Tresidder

Chair Of Governors

– Terms of office 20/7/2021 to 19/7/2025

I have lived in Illogan for the last 35 yrs and both of my children attended Illogan CP school. I come to the role of governor with 42 years of experience working in the public sector. This has primarily been spent supporting families and I have a great deal of knowledge and understanding on life in this area. Now that I have retired I have renewed my passion for coastal walks, reading, listening to music and exploring the country in our van. I am delighted to be able to accept this opportunity and look forward to working with my fellow

Governor
Wow! It doesn’t seem over thirty years ago that I was the Deputy Headteacher at Illogan school with both my children also at the school & my wife teaching at Pool School. Born and brought up in Cornwall I was delighted to be able to move back here in 1986 after several years teaching (and playing rugby) in London and then in North Devon. After leaving Illogan school in 1991 I did not move far becoming Headteacher at Portreath School before retiring from there in 2009. My wife tells me I am not really retired as I am still involved in education, being a Trustee & Member of the Crofty MAT. Outside of education I still play tennis, love to sea swim all year round and enjoy spending time with our grandchildren (two of whom live locally & one in Sri Lanka). I still live locally, continue to be enthusiastic about children’s primary school education, and am really looking forward to my renewed involvement with Illogan School as a Governor.

Miss Sarah Jose

Teacher Governor
– Terms of office 26/11/2019 to 25/11/2023

I am the Reception teacher at Illogan School and I became the staff governor in November 2019. As a governor, I hope to deepen my understanding of the school and improve provision and outcomes for the children.

Mrs Sam Murray

Governor
I work at Curnow Lower School, the primary phase of an all aged special school attached to Illogan School. I have two roles in school; I am assistant headteacher and I have a two day teaching commitment. I love this combination of roles as it allows me to use the knowledge that I have gained in special education over the past 20 years to support others and influence the continuing development of Curnow School and our trust, and still work within the classroom as a teacher. I have been the head of Lower School since our move to Illogan and am very proud of the links that we have developed here, supporting the shared vision of ‘two schools, one community’. I am particularly committed to ensuring that learning and social links between the cohorts of both schools continues, having witnessed first-hand the positive effect this can have on all children. I am very excited to be able to be a member of Illogan School’s Governing Body and hope that I can my knowledge and experiences will add value to the team.

Mrs Joanne Stoddern

Parent Governor
I am excited to begin the role of parent governor at Illogan school; as a SENCo at Treloweth Primary School and working with our own governors, it will be interesting to be on the ‘other side of the fence’.

Illogan school is special to me for a number of reasons; it is where my son now attends, but it was also my own Primary School where I have many fond memories. I am looking forward to working more closely with the school and supporting its development to ensure the best out comes for all children.

Mrs Lynne Stevenson

Governor
On moving to Cornwall in 1995 both my girls attended Illogan Infant and then Primary School, whereupon I spent several years on the Friends Committee helping organize social events, raising funds for the school and accompanying pupils on many school trips. I have 25 years of teaching experience in the primary/middle school sector, 20 years of which were working in Berkshire and on moving to Cornwall I have then taught at schools in Redruth, Camborne, Portreath and Illogan on both supply and short term contracts covering for maternity and sickness leave amongst other things. In 2000 I changed career and joined my husband to run our garden centre/landscaping business until retirement in 2018. Having both teaching and business experience I feel I am well placed to assist the staff and school as a whole to achieve their aims and in turn to help the pupils realize their potential.
