School Governors

Our school is proud to be part of Crofty Education Trust, the governance of which is the responsibility of a Board of Trustees – chaired by Mr Mike Hosking.

Crofty Governance – Crofty Education Trust

Our school has a Local Governance Committee (LGC) – this is a committee of the Board of Trustees. Our Local Governors are all volunteers and have an important role in supporting and challenging our school leaders to achieve the best possible outcomes for every child in the school.

Governors are responsible for monitoring the schools’ arrangements for Safeguarding and progress towards their School Development Plan. Governors do this by speaking with pupils and staff and by receiving regular reports from both the Headteacher and the Trust about their progress.

Governors also have a responsibility for engaging with stakeholders – parents, pupils and staff – so a range of views can help shape the future of everyone within the wider Crofty Education Trust community.

If you are interested in becoming a governor at one of our schools, please contact our Governance Coordinator: Contact – Crofty Education Trust

School Governors

Mrs Janet Tresidder

Chair Of Governors
I have lived in Illogan for the last 35 yrs and both of my children attended Illogan CP school. I come to the role of governor with 42 years of experience working in the public sector. This has primarily been spent supporting families and I have a great deal of knowledge and understanding on life in this area. Now that I have retired I have renewed my passion for coastal walks, reading, listening to music and exploring the country in our van. I am delighted to be able to accept this opportunity and look forward to working with my fellow

Mrs Sam Murray

Governor
I work at Curnow Lower School, the primary phase of an all aged special school attached to Illogan School. I have two roles in school; I am assistant headteacher and I have a two day teaching commitment. I love this combination of roles as it allows me to use the knowledge that I have gained in special education over the past 20 years to support others and influence the continuing development of Curnow School and our trust, and still work within the classroom as a teacher. I have been the head of Lower School since our move to Illogan and am very proud of the links that we have developed here, supporting the shared vision of ‘two schools, one community’. I am particularly committed to ensuring that learning and social links between the cohorts of both schools continues, having witnessed first-hand the positive effect this can have on all children. I am very excited to be able to be a member of Illogan School’s Governing Body and hope that I can my knowledge and experiences will add value to the team.

Mrs Joanne Stoddern

Parent Governor
I am excited to begin the role of parent governor at Illogan school; as a SENCo and Deputy Head at Weeth Primary School and working with our own governors, it will be interesting to be on the ‘other side of the fence’.

Illogan school is special to me for a number of reasons; it is where my son now attends, but it was also my own Primary School where I have many fond memories. I am looking forward to working more closely with the school and supporting its development to ensure the best out comes for all children.

Mrs Lynne Stevenson

Governor
On moving to Cornwall in 1995 both my girls attended Illogan Infant and then Primary School, whereupon I spent several years on the Friends Committee helping organize social events, raising funds for the school and accompanying pupils on many school trips. I have 25 years of teaching experience in the primary/middle school sector, 20 years of which were working in Berkshire and on moving to Cornwall I have then taught at schools in Redruth, Camborne, Portreath and Illogan on both supply and short term contracts covering for maternity and sickness leave amongst other things. In 2000 I changed career and joined my husband to run our garden centre/landscaping business until retirement in 2018. Having both teaching and business experience I feel I am well placed to assist the staff and school as a whole to achieve their aims and in turn to help the pupils realize their potential.

Mrs C Dagg

My teaching journey began in 1993, when I headed to university in Wales. I had dreamed of being a teacher since I was in Year 1 at school, being taught by an inspirational, kind and thoughtful teacher. I just wanted to be that teacher! It soon became clear at university however, that the teaching course was not what I had expected and instead of teaching I graduated with a BA in English and Religious Philosophy. I am a great believer in things happening for a reason however and I still think I was destined to go to Wales, as it was there that I met my husband of nearly 30 years.

Since university, I worked in various roles, administrative and managerial. In 2000, we had our first child and were lucky enough to have a second in 2001. In 2003, my husband and I decided that, like so many working families, we saw so little of each other, that we should explore working together. We had an incredible time running our own indoor children’s entertainment centre, for 13 years. When business became more focussed upon finance than fun, I began exploring a change of career. My children were growing up and I was ready for the next challenge. I knew that teaching was my first ‘dream job’ and considered that maybe after ‘growing up’ this could still be possible. I am grateful every day that I made the decision to revisit my original career path. I truly believe that this is my vocation, the values at Illogan School align with my own and I hope to inspire the children that I teach, in the same way that I was inspired.

Gemma Vanstone

Parent Governor
I grew up in Illogan and attended the school myself, so Illogan School is a very special place to me. After some time living away for university and work, I returned to the area with my family, and it is now wonderful to see my boys going to the same school that I did! They are absolutely thriving and very happy on their journey through primary school.
I work as a Clinical Scientist in the Department of Clinical Microbiology at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. As a family, we love living near the sea and making the most of our incredible local environment. When I’m not standing at the side of a sports pitch (usually freezing!) watching one of my boys, I enjoy walking at the coast and spending time with friends and family.
I have been a Parent Governor since 2023 and thoroughly enjoy it. It’s wonderful to play a role in helping our school be the best it can possibly be.

Jane Nicholls

Governor
I moved from Redruth to Illogan three years ago and am keen to play an active role in the community and value the opportunity to support Illogan School.
I worked previously as a maths’ teacher and then deputy head of a large secondary school in Truro and now I am retired I feel I have the time and experience to contribute to Illogan school in my role as a governor.
As a school leader I worked closely with young people and their families and valued supporting them across a range of issues. I believe that a positive, challenging and supportive educational experience is essential for the well being of young people so that they have the opportunity to fulfil their potential both in school and in the future.
I hope that I can support Illogan School to continue to provide an excellent educational experience for their pupils.
I have four grown up children and two grandchildren and enjoy their company as well as walking, home improvement and travelling around the UK and abroad with my husband and friends in our camper van.
